Custom Doors
For this project, I designed custom sliding doors that function as large-scale works of art, transforming ordinary closets into striking focal points. My Denver based clients, avid art collectors with a home filled with antique wood furniture and unique pieces, sought doors that reflected their love of nature and travel.
The first set draws inspiration from Colorado’s natural landscapes, featuring a repeating tree motif that celebrates the region’s beauty. The second set reflects the clients’ favorite destination, Barcelona, incorporating a laser-etched panel showcasing the Barri Gothic street plan and a section of a topographic map of Serra de Collserola Parc Natural.
Crafted from old English mahogany, the doors are CNC and laser engraved, with inlay recesses finished in ebony stain. The panels are encased in a ¾-inch veneer frame, concealing the tracks and creating a seamless visual flow. Integrated handles carved into the routed surface eliminate the need for additional hardware, enhancing the clean, modern aesthetic. The backs of the doors are finished with a balanced black laminate, ensuring durability and cohesion.
This project was a harmonious blend of artistry, precision, and functionality, tailored to the clients’ unique aesthetic and lifestyle.
